Dysfunctional and Toxic Cycles

We often rely on each other to defy our identity. Relationships allow us to see different aspects of ourselves and grow.

Especially in childhood, when we look at ourselves into broken mirrors, what we see or perceive of ourselves can feel distorted, controversial and fragmented, impacting how we behave in society and relationships.

Empowering yourself to overcome dysfunctions within specific relationships is crucial. This involves working alongside relationships to address personal issues and feelings, which may require deep self-reflection and understanding of our upbringing and family patterns.

If you have grown up in a dysfunctional family, or you may have been through some traumatic experiences, this can affect the way you relate; you may feel insecure, in need of control or need of accommodation and please… and this is normal. Nobody has the ultimate recipe or perfect solutions, and it’s ok to have coping strategies and have made some creative adjustments.

Understanding your upbringing and inner world can facilitate the transition to understanding what you have borrowed or embodied from your parents and environment in terms of “emotional framework,” how that aligns with your values and who you are today, and how to change what is no longer healthy or good for you. Perhaps you want to learn a new language or skills to resolve issues and conflicts while addressing your individual needs.

When we become aware of our behaviour and responses, understanding that nothing is set in stone, we can release and heal past hurt while developing new and better ways to move forward. This journey leads to freedom, better acceptance and confidence in your daily life and relationships.
